According to Technorati, this is currently the most authorative blog about the Guardian. I expect that to change pretty quickly.

More Spooks
Ooh. New series of Spooks starts next week. There’s a two-parter on Monday and Tuesday. The last series wasn’t up to the standard of the first two (losing the three main characters didn’t really help) but it’s good mindless entertainment. I’ll certainly be watching. Oh and, purely coincidently, today I was given the first two… Continue reading More Spooks
New Format Guardian
The Guardian has announced (free registration required) that it will relaunch in its new Berliner format from Monday 12th September. Recently I’ve got out of the habit of buying a paper every day, but I’ve bought one twice in the last week or so and it reminded me how much I enjoy reading the paper… Continue reading New Format Guardian
Patriotism – The New Chauvinism
George Monbiot on form as ever in today’s Guardian. Out of the bombings a national consensus has emerged: what we need in Britain is a renewed sense of patriotism. The rightwing papers have been making their usual noises about old maids and warm beer, but in the past 10 days they’ve been joined by Jonathan… Continue reading Patriotism – The New Chauvinism
Sarah! Jane! Smith!
Ex-Doctor Who companion Sarah Jane Smith will return in the new series of the sci-fi show, it was revealed as the Doctor’s new costume was unveiled. Popular 1970s character Sarah Jane, played by Elisabeth Sladen, will join new Doctor Who actor David Tennant. From the BBC site, so it must be true.
BBC on Fox
Roger Mosey, head of BBC Television News, says what he really thinks about Fox. Finally, we are never immune from accusations of bias. It goes without saying that there is nothing more sensitive than matters of life and death, and the BBC’s audience response has been massively supportive and understanding about the dilemmas we face… Continue reading BBC on Fox
Blogging the Bombs
It’s a couple of days on, so let’s step back and take a look at what happened on Thursday. I’m still trying to articulate exactly how I feel about it all so let’s leave that for another post and instead look at more practical matters. Basically, it seems to me that Thursday 7th July 2005… Continue reading Blogging the Bombs
Telegraph on RSS
Interesting article from the Telegraph about the rise of RSS and its (potential) impact on news media. To the consumer, the main benefit of RSS services is that they make receiving news more efficient. Instead of looking at one news website, then another, and then another, each time looking for stories that are interesting, RSS… Continue reading Telegraph on RSS
Striking up Conversations with Strangers
Simon Waldman talks about the way that Guardian Unlimited needs to interact with bloggers. He’s talking about it in the context of the Guardian‘s forthcoming move to a Berliner format. The world our Berliner will launch into is almost unrecognisable to the one that greeted our last major change – the redesign of 1988. It… Continue reading Striking up Conversations with Strangers
The Parting of the Ways
Some thoughts on the final episode of the new series of Doctor Who. In general I’ve really enjoyed this series. Most of the stories have worked well and I think that Eccleston was a great choice to play the Doctor. Bizarrely, the stories that I have liked least (“Father’s Day” and “Dalek”) have been the… Continue reading The Parting of the Ways
