Newspapers vs the BBC

An interesting article from the Economist discussing the fall in newspaper circulation and largely blaming the BBC’s web site for this. It is the success of the BBC’s news website that most troubles newspapers. Its audience has increased from 1.6m unique weekly users in 2000 to 7.8m in 2005; and its content has a breadth… Continue reading Newspapers vs the BBC

Guardian Resizes

The Guardian has confirmed the rumours that it will be resizing to Berliner format this autumn. The Observer will follow early next year. Update: Oh. They’ll be full colour too. Update: Changed link to a very similar-looking story in the business section (which doesn’t require registration).

Tabloid News

There was a lot of important news going on yesterday. Mrs Windsor’s speech in parliament for example. Or George Galloway in front of the US Senate. Doctor Who Satire

Tim Rice was a guest on today’s Breakfast with Frost. He was asked to pick interesting stories from today’s papers. One story he chose concerned the fact that Death Valley has had so much rain recently that it now has vegetation and wildlife for the first time for ages. This led to a brief discussion… Continue reading Tim Rice on Climate Change

Was Pope Coverage Too Much?

Interesting (and reasonably well hidden) page on the BBC news site where they admit that the number of complaints they have had about their wall to wall coverage of the Pope’s death has “swamped” the amount of praise they have recieved for it. Head of TV news Roger Mosey has answered some of the complaints… Continue reading Was Pope Coverage Too Much?
