Shock Treatment has been released on DVD. If you’re not aware of the significance of this event then you’re not as big a Rocky Horror fan as you like to think you are. There’s also the obligatory collectors edition with stupid amounts of extra stuff.

Da Vinci Dilemma
Nice review of The Da Vinci Code on the BBC blog network. Two categories of people will probably be disappointed by the film: those who have read the book and those who have been looking forward to the movie. For all its flaws, the book is vastly better than the film. And I say that… Continue reading Da Vinci Dilemma
V For Vendetta
So I should write something about V For Vendetta, if only to say how much I disagree with Peter Bradshaw’s review. The graphic novel that the film is based on is one of my favourites, so I’m probably a bit biased and you should bear that in mind when reading my comments. Having said that,… Continue reading V For Vendetta
Watching Films
As part of our cable TV package we subscribe to the Sky Movie channels. For about £15 a month we get eight Sky film channels (it was nine but one was recently removed for some reason) and a handful of Disney channels. But we pretty much subscribed to them by default (“oh, we like films… Continue reading Watching Films
Film Reviews
I’ve seen quite a few films over the weekend. So let’s pretend that you’re interested in my opinions of them and give you some reviews. Batman Begins I still love buying and reading superhero comics. But it’s been some time since I saw a really satisfying film based on a comicbook hero. This wasn’t very… Continue reading Film Reviews
Cultural Consumption
Long time readers might remember how I was going to read fifty books in 2005 and review each one as I finished it. I was going pretty well until the middle of March when I got rather ill and lost all interest in reading. After a few weeks I started reading again, but I never… Continue reading Cultural Consumption
MirrorMask vs The Corpse Bride
Last weekend I saw The Corpse Bride. Yesterday I saw MirrorMask. Two new films from past masters of fantasy. How do they compare? Actually there’s no comparison. MirrorMask is streets ahead. Whilst I’m a big fan of a lot of Tim Burton’s work, I find that some of his gothic fantasy stuff is a bit… Continue reading MirrorMask vs The Corpse Bride
Comics and Films and Masks
I saw Fantastic Four yesterday. Not a bad film, but there were a few things that bothered me about it. The biggest of these was the portrayal of Doctor Doom. As every comics reader knows, Doom has worn a metal mask ever since we first met him over forty years ago. We’ve never seen his… Continue reading Comics and Films and Masks
Bowling For Columbine
Last night I finally got to see Michael Moore‘s film Bowling for Columbine. It was every bit as good as I expected. Moore looks at the huge number of people who are killed with guns in the USA annually and tries to understand what the causes are. In the process he manages to make a… Continue reading Bowling For Columbine
