University Fees

All this discussion about university tuition fees is of more than academic(!) interest to me. My step-daughter is currently doing the first year of her A levels and has every intention of going on to university after that.

Whilst, of course, there’s no question of her not being able to go, we’d obviously be happier if it didn’t cost us £3000 a year.

However, the news coverage last night pointed out that these plans are going to be implemented on courses starting in 2006. And she’ll be starting in 2005. So that’s ok then.

Unless she decides to take a gap year first. I’ve been telling her that’s a good idea. I may have to revise that message.

  1. As a pupil that will be going into college in 2006, i am more than disgraced at the introduction of tuition fees! i think they are rediculas! The schooling and further education schemes should be one payment at the begining, or non at all, not 3000 a year!

  2. totally agree with you..I’m a young student and i wish to go to university soon as i finish college in july.but the problem has been created with the fees.for £3000 pounds a years, it is too much….that is a price of a brand new car, that you can obtain with a loan where you have to pay £300 a month…so what tony blair try to say is… only is daughter and all the other posh people are allowed in university.not the people that are trying to give to their children the best of the best in education

  3. As I understand it, the increased fees won’t be introduced until Autumn 2006. Anyone starting college before that will be paying the old fees throughout their course. And where can you get a brand new car for £3000?

  4. Hmm.. yeh, Tony Blair is being unreasonable to say the very least! My parents are all for me going to uni, however, with these costs its almost impossible to get any young and truly interested people into uni if they are not millionaires!Kurt, age 13, Contact me if u want do dicuss things with me, kurtturner2@msn.com

  5. I think that it should be free because if people got more qualifications, they would get better salarys, and live better lifestyles. PLUS, the extra salarys would create more taxes, which would pay for the tuition they had to get the salary in the first place. Also, the lack of fees would mean that people who wished to go but could not afford to otherwise, would be able to, without difficulties, meaning getting into uni would be more about brains instead of income. PS. I would be going to uni in 2008.Dare 2b different!

  6. Yeh griff, i totally agree with you! It’s all just so the damn government can get their hands on more money! This will cause potential university students to “scrap” higher education, which in the long run, means no more intelligent people running things. Oh yeh, i wont be goin until 2008 sorry.

  7. if uni education was free than how would the govt. pay for other national services suh as the nhs, which i believe is already declining!furthermore if everyone would get a qualification than there woudl be bigger competition for the top jobs and more unemployement due to the lack of jobs in the tertiary and quartneray sectors!

  8. I think that uni fees are a fuckin rip off, and tony blair needs to go fuck himself with a cucumber. fuck all the fuckers hu are luking at this website. ha ha.
