From here it looks like the comment spammers have finally declared out and out war on bloggers. For the past three days I’ve had a constant stream of spam comments added to this site. This morning there were 400 new ones. The comments all seem to point to randomly generated URLs, so I think that… Continue reading Comment Spam War

Comment Spam (Again)
Good piece by Ben about the increase in comment spam which is apparently crippling some servers running Moveable Type. This site runs on MT and I get quiet a lot of comment spam, but it doesn’t seem to be having a major impact on the site’s performance yet (I hope no-one sees that as a… Continue reading Comment Spam (Again)
Thunderbird
Last month we were encouraging everyone to stop using Internet Explorer and use Firefox instead. This month, it’s the turn of Outlook to be replaced. If you’re bothered by the insecurities of Outlook, then you should take a look at Thunderbird. It’s from the same people as Firefox and it’s a very stable, very secure… Continue reading Thunderbird
Corporate Email
Jeremy Zawodny speaks much sense about the dismal state of corporate email.
eBay Customer Service
Important Note: This site has no connection at all with Ebay. I cannot help you with any problems that you are having with Ebay customer support. I would have thought that this was obvious, but it seems that there are some very stupid people out there. Customer service is one of those things that it’s… Continue reading eBay Customer Service
Podblasting
Podblasting hits the mainstream. Or, at least, Ben Hammersley writes about it in the Guardian – which in my limited view of the world amounts to much the same thing. Update: I should point out that I consider “podblasting” and its derivatives to be non-words. This is because they carry implications that all listening to… Continue reading Podblasting
BBC Real Audio
The BBC makes a lot of its output available as Real Audio streams on its web site, both as a programme is being broadcast and also for (usually) a week later. The BBC techs have done a lot of work to make this all nice and seamless. There’s a BBC Radio Player web application that… Continue reading BBC Real Audio
IE Usage Falls
Web analysis company OneStat.com have published a report showing that Internet Explorer’s usage share has dropped to under 90%. The combined usage of all Mozilla-based browsers (which includes Firefox) is at 7.35%. Probably the most important point in the report is that IE usage has fallen by 5% since May. Update: The BBC are also… Continue reading IE Usage Falls
Stupid iGeeks
I admit I never got on well with Apple computers. I have a Powerbook but as far as I’m concerned it’s the computer of last resort[1]. I just can’t get on with the user interface in OSX and I’m far happier working on a PC running Linux and Gnome. But I do know a lot… Continue reading Stupid iGeeks
IE vs Firefox (again)
Over the weekend I did some work on the stylesheet for my main site. I cleaned it up a lot and made it look far simpler. Of course, as I was making the changes, I was testing them on Firefox. IE doesn’t work on Linux so I couldn’t test them on that without using someone… Continue reading IE vs Firefox (again)
