Euro-Sceptics

Kilroy-Silk will surely go down in history as the person who single-handedly destroyed British Euro-sceptics chances of being taken seriously. It almost makes me like him. I said “almost”. Update: It seems that Kilroy-Silk’s new party doesn’t have a web site (or, at least, not one that Google knows about) so I’m happy to join… Continue reading Euro-Sceptics

London Olympic Bid Over

According to today’s Observer senior members of the campaign to bring the Olympics to London in 2012 are admitting that their bid has failed. Many Londoners (myself included) will see this as very good news. I don’t remember anyone asking us if we wanted the Olympics here.

The Slow and Lingering Death of the Tories

According to the front page story in today’s Times there are people inside the Tory party who are secretly admitting that they have no chance of winning the forthcoming General Election. I’m surprised that they ever thought they had any chance of winning. In my opinion they should be more worried about whether they come… Continue reading The Slow and Lingering Death of the Tories

Martin Linton on Iraq

Just got back from a Wandsworth Stop the War Coalition meeting. I don’t usually go to these things but is was in my local pub and their guest speaker was our MP, Martin Linton. You have to have a bit of respect for Linton for coming to the meeting. He was one of the MPs… Continue reading Martin Linton on Iraq

Mrs Windsor

Welsh Assembly member Leanne Wood was ordered out of the assembly chamber yesterday after she called the queen “Mrs Windsor” in the debate. I can understand why people got so upset with her. It’s clear that the correct term of address should be “Mrs Mountbatten-Windsor”.

But my MP, Martin Linton, does much worse than that. He responses to 57.62% of the the faxes he gets. Are you listening Google? That’s… Continue reading MP Response Stats

Election Aftermath

One last round-up of US election stuff and I promise we’ll be back to our scheduled programming. Firstly a site where intelligent Americans apologise to the rest of the world. In today’s Guardian Simon Schama writes about the divisions in the USA and names the two nations Worldly America and Godly America. Worldly America, which… Continue reading Election Aftermath

Why They Did It

The BBC have put up a “have your say” page asking Americans why they voted for Bush. The answers make for some very depressing reading. There are an incredible number of people who mention the fact that Bush is a christian in their responses. I’m constantly astonished by the number of Americans who see this… Continue reading Why They Did It

Four More Years

The news sites are just starting to run stories saying that John Kerry has conceded defeat in the presidential election. If I’ve learned anything from the last 12 hours, it’s that the large number of intelligent and decent Americans that I know only represent half of a bitterly divided country. There are just as many… Continue reading Four More Years

Dadblog

For a few months now I’ve been getting a lot of pleasure out of reading Dadblog. Today Lloyd excels himself by coming out in support of John Kerry (not that that was much of a surprise to anyone) in an entry that includes this: But if you believe the government of the most powerful political… Continue reading Dadblog
