Alexis Petridis getting nicely bitchy in a review of the Cream reunion gig. Hendrix, rather unsportingly, fetched up in London two weeks after their first gig, and immediately set about making them look a bit stodgy. He has continued to do so after his death; one of the few benefits attached to choking on your… Continue reading Cream Reunion

The Icicle Works
One of my favourite bands of all time are The Icicle Works. I first heard of them when they briefly entered the UK pop charts in the early 80s with Love Is A Wonderful Colour and Birds Fly (Whisper To A Scream) but I dismissed them as just another average pop band until I saw… Continue reading The Icicle Works
Rick Wakeman
See, even the title of this entry has sent my street cred plummenting. Now watch me completely destroy what’s left of it. I’ve never really enjoyed the “classic” Rick Wakeman albums like Journey to the Centre of the Earth or The Myths and Legends of King Arthur. They’ve always seemed like they are trying to… Continue reading Rick Wakeman
Jim Capaldi RIP
I climbed on the back of a giant albatross Which flew through a crack in the cloud To a place where happiness reigned all year round Where music played ever so loudly Jim Capaldi, founder member of Traffic, died earlier today. One for Dadrock perhaps.
Ticket Prices
I’ve never seen U2 live. I’d like to see them. But no live concert (especially one in stadium) is worth £55. For that price I’d expect an all-day festival. When are music fans going to say “enough is enough” and stop paying such ridiculous prices for concert tickets?
Concept Album
Who remembers concept albums? In the 70s we all listened to them. There was no shame in it. But then punk rock came along and opened our eyes. We all realised what a pile of pretentious nonsense they were all and they were all consigned to the back of the wardrobe with all the other… Continue reading Concept Album
Lou Reed
I’m still slowly working my way through ripping all of my CDs to .ogg files. Yesterday it was the turn of Lou Reed. I’ve got some really good Lou Reed albums (Transformer, Street Hassle and New York) but I’ve also got some dross that I bought in the late 90s when I had too much… Continue reading Lou Reed
Pogues
Fifteen years ago I certainly wouldn’t have taken bets on Shane MacGowan still being alive now. But he is and he’s being interviewed by the Guardian about the forthcoming Pogues revival. The classic Pogues line-up (yes, including Cait O’Riordan) are back together for the first time in almost twenty years and they’re playing gigs next… Continue reading Pogues
Feed the Sudan
Well I finally heard the new version of Do They Know It’s Christmas yesterday and I have to say that I was distinctly unimpressed. It’s even worse than Band Aid 2. So if you want to support the Sudan but refuse to pay money for that terrible record, here’s a suggestion. Until January 9th, the… Continue reading Feed the Sudan
Terrible Gig
Update: Hello to anyone who has found their way to this page from the Queenzone forum. Sorry if my review upsets you, but it’s just my honest recollections of gig that I didn’t enjoy. As I say below, I’m sure that these problems have all been fixed up in the DVD release, so there’s no… Continue reading Terrible Gig
