I’ve never seen U2 live. I’d like to see them. But no live concert (especially one in stadium) is worth £55. For that price I’d expect an all-day festival.
When are music fans going to say “enough is enough” and stop paying such ridiculous prices for concert tickets?
As far as I can tell the gigs aimed at the more mature audience seem to get away with these prices more often than you’d expect. Queen + Paul Roberts tour is 55 quid a ticket too. I suppose they work on the theory that fans who would still be interested in seeing them now have the cash to spend, and don’t go to many gigs in a year, so don’t mind so much? The last time I paid more than 25 quid for a gig (rather than a festival) was probably the Stones at Wembly Arena, and I think that was only 28 quid. Not even Metallica (Kings of the Cash In) try it on like this.
I saw Rammstein last night for £28 (including the £3 booking tax). There were fireworks, fountains of fire, bits of the stage going up and down, the keyboard player on a segway, and flamethrowers. Can’t imagine a U2 gig is going to be half as much fun, never mind twice as much.
