Don’t tell anyone, but the Central Line is working through the centre of London again. It’s been out of action for 68 days – since the derailment on January 25th. I was a bit worried as it was apparently going to be a cutdown service this morning so I was expecting the trains to be… Continue reading The Secret Tube

The First Casualty of War is the Truth
On March 21, the day after American and British troops began their illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq, an “embedded” CNN correspondent interviewed an American soldier. “I wanna get in there and get my nose dirty,” Private AJ said. “I wanna take revenge for 9/11.” To be fair to the correspondent, even though he was… Continue reading The First Casualty of War is the Truth
The Best Tunes
They say that “the devil has all the best tunes” but that’s just not true. A lot of spiritual music is very good too. As an example, the song currently stuck in my head is Down To The River To Pray from the soundtrack of O Brother, Where Art Thou? It’s a fabulous piece of… Continue reading The Best Tunes
Nude Volleyball
From the “sad geeks who should get out more” department. The BBC are reporting that geeks have produced a set of patches for the game Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball. These patches take the (already scantily clad) women from the game and show them completely naked. Unsurprisingly, this hasn’t gone down well with the… Continue reading Nude Volleyball
New York, New York
Apparently, from midnight tonight smoking will be banned in all bars in New York. I’ve always said that New York was one of my favourite places and this can only increase the likelihood that I’ll live there at some point. So many places in the world are passing laws like this, but unfortunately there seems… Continue reading New York, New York
First Family of Folk
A lot of nonsense is talked in some quarters, when referring to us, about “The First Family of Folk” or even (God help us) “The Royal Family of Folk”. People who do that, in my view, want their backsides kicking – hard. If there is one family who deserve such a title – and I… Continue reading First Family of Folk
Time Travel
I really want to believe this chap’s story. NEW YORK — Federal investigators have arrested an enigmatic Wall Street wiz on insider-trading charges — and incredibly, he claims to be a time-traveler from the year 2256! ‘TIME-TRAVELER’ BUSTED FOR INSIDER TRADING
“Executions”
The front pages of most of the UK tabloids today are incandesant with rage over the two British soldiers who were apparently “executed” on Saddam’s orders. This was also a key point in Tony Blair’s speech at Camp David where he used it as proof of the “depravity of Saddam’s regime”. Unfortunately for Blair and… Continue reading “Executions”
“Friendly” Fire
According to the BBC British soldiers in Iraq have been learning from their US allies and have started killing each other.
Casualties of War
Currently the British media are reporting individually on every “coalition” soldier who is injured, goes missing or is killed in Iraq. It makes you wonder what would have happened if we’d had this level of media coverage in 1914-18 or 1939-45.
