Last year’s much-fêted Top of the Pops revamp seems to have been a disaster as the programme is about to move from BBC1 to BBC2 for the first time in its 40-year history.
I don’t think it’s been the same since it moved from Thursdays to Fridays. Thursday evening watching Tomorrow’s World and Top of the Pops. That was the defining TV of my childhood.
I like the revamped TOTP and I think it was a good improvement on the old version. What TOTP needs is not only to try a different slot, but a longer show. An hour a week, maybe starting at 7 on a Friday or 8 on a Thursday would give it a chance to fulfil the aim that Andi Peters – which I can sympathise with totally. To just move it to BBC2 without trying a new slot seems an admission of defeat.
