Tussauds closed the London Planetarium closed recently and over the weekend the Guardian reported on its replacement – a show about celebrities called “the Stardome”[1]. One phrase rang particularly true for me.
“It’s a no-brainer,” said Nicky Marsh, marketing director of the waxwork attractions. And, in several senses, she was right.
I despair.
[1] Do you see what they’ve done there – you can still see “stars” in the planetarium.
It’s sad – but the Planetarium has been pants for quite a few years before this current debacle.
My partner took me back in 2000 as a birthday present – and rather than the rather magical tour around the night skies I recall from my last visit I got a hugely corny bad-sf-plot trip around the stars. Blargh. Only good bit was about two minutes of Patrick Moore they had obviously scavenged from a previous production.
Shudder…
