Litany Against Meetings

I was in a meeting just before lunch and I passed the time by trying to remember the Litany Against Meetings. Of course, Google found the full text easily.

I must not attend meetings.
Meetings are the mind killer.
Meetings are the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my meeting.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the wasted time has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

With apologies to Frank Herbert and thanks to the denizens of the #perl IRC channel which is where I first heard it.

  1. I feel sorry for the losers that have to sit through meetings like this, and for the losers that organise them.

If your meetings are always crap, people, either change them or get another job! There’s no point writing poems about it that don’t scan!

  2. Ian Howletts wrong – that’s friggin genius man. I love Dune and I loathe meetings like you. That last guy is clearly about 12 and has never experienced the insanity of the corporate meeting. If you’ve worked in the public sector then take that insanity and multiply it by incompetence, then take it to the power of waste.
