Here’s a modest proposal. In fact, here are two modest proposals. If the Labour government has any socialist principles left, then surely it should do two fundamental things in order to make our schools truly egalitarian rather than crapshoots for worried parents. They are: abolish fee-paying schools and abolish all faith schools as the main pedagogical institutions which children of school age attend (they may attend supplementary faith schools after hours).
And you know what? He’s absolutely right.
Stopping an individual from spending their money on a better education for their children is wrong.If you want to talk about removing funding for religous schools however i’m all over that. Mind you, i’d like to see state schools abolished.
This is a tricky one. I’m pretty firmly on the athiest side of the fence, yet I want my kids to go to a nice school, with no bullying, where they get a good education, in a friendly environment. So far, they have only gone to faith based schools, as I think they are the best ones around for what I want.
