Over the last couple of days I’ve read thru the archives of the mailing list for Move American Forward – the organisation behind the campaign to persuade US cinemas not to show Fahrenheit 9/11. I’ve never come across such an incredible amount of bigotry and intolerance in one place. It’s full of people with the most closed minds I’ve ever seen. The most offensive racist and homophobic language goes completely unchallenged.
These people claim to be moving America forward, but it seems to me that they want to take it back to a past where no-one stepped outside of a restrictive definition of normal behavior that was set by the church. I really hope that they represent the death-throes of a particularly unpleasant type of dinosaur.
Hmm, perhaps let boingboing.net know about this – it’ll get spread halfway across the blogosphere (how I hate that word) in about five minutes. Perhaps we can counter the “If you show Fahrenheit 9/11 you’re a traitor” meme with “If you refuse to show it you’re a racist homophobe” instead ;)
Hardly surprising… ‘Move America Forward’ is nothing more than a front for a Republican-Party-linked public relations firm, Russo Marsh and Rogers. For some inexplicable reason, the fact that RM+R set up MAF is not mentioned anywhere on the MAF website. Can’t imagine why…Furthermore, RM+R made about 2 and a half million dollars from Republican Party politicians in 2001/2002. What a surprise.See:http://www.disinfopedia.org/wiki.phtml?title=Move_America_Forwardhttp://www.disinfopedia.org/wiki.phtml?title=Russo_Marsh_and_Rogershttp://www.whatreallyhappened.com/moveamericaforward.html
By the way, if you’re truly annoyed by MAF, you should point your above link to ‘Move America Forward’ to an anti-MAF site, rather than to their site. Or alternatively, put their URL in plain text… :)
