Blink

I haven’t been very impressed with this season of Doctor Who so far. Gridlock was ok and the recent two-parter (“Human Nature” and “The Family of Blood”) had some very interesting ideas which were spoilt by a horribly mawkish ending – but other than that it’s all been rather disappointing.

But last night’s episode, “Blink”, was wonderful. This is why we watch Doctor Who. The whole time paradox plot was really well written and the “weeping angel” monsters were well thought-out. And it was far scarier than you’d think they would get away with on BBC One early on a Saturday evening.

It was written by Steven Moffat. He also wrote the “Empty Child”/”Doctor Dances” two-parter two years ago and “The Girl in the Fireplace” last year. Which means that he’s been responsible for some of the best stories from recent Doctor Who.

Only three more episodes to go this year. It was looking like a really poor year, but this has really brought the average up.
